Review::Swahili Firefox

After a few months of working tzLUG, in collaboration with Kilinux, are ready to present you with a Swahili Firefox for reviewing purposes. Below are installation procedures for Linux and Microsoft Windows. Please send your reviews to tzlug@linuxgroup.co.tz

Linux Users

  • Download firefox-3.5b4pre.sw-TZ.linux-i686.tar.bz2 to your computer
  • Backup and then remove your current Mozilla settings. Start your terminal
    • # cd ~
    • # tar jcfv mozilla.backup.tar.bz2 .mozilla
    • # rm -Rfv .mozilla
  • Untar the files and install the language pack
    • # cd path-to-downloaded-file
    • # tar jxfv firefox-3.5b4pre.sw-TZ.linux-i686.tar.bz2
    • # cd firefox-3.5b4pre.sw-TZ.linux-i686
    • # tar jxfv firefox-3.5b4pre.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2
    • # cd firefox
    • # ./firefox
    • Click File -> Open File. Navigate to the untarred folder, select firefox-3.5b4pre.sw.langpack.xpi,click Open, then Install
    • Restart
    • On the address bar, type about:config. On the settings look for general.useragent.locale and change it's value from en-US to sw-TZ.
    • Close the brower, restart it again ./firefox. It will be in Kiswahili.
Warning: Do not start Firefox by cliking the Firefox icon or start firefox on your terminal, as this will overwrite these settings. Always navigate to the firefox you have untarred and start ./firefox

Microsot Windows Users

  • Download firefox-3.5b4pre.sw-TZ.win32.zip to your computer
  • If you have Firefox already installed on your computer, Backup and then remove your current Mozilla settings, . Start My Computer
    • Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\put-your-username\Application Data
    • Copy the folder Mozilla on to your desktop and then delete it (delete the copy in C:\Documents and Settings\put-your-username\Application Data, not the one on the desktop)

    • Uninstall the current version of Firefox
  • Unzip the files and install the language pack
    • Navigate to where you have saved the downloaded the firefox-3.5b4pre.sw-TZ.win32.zip file
    • Unzip it, creating a folder firefox-3.5b4pre.sw-TZ.win32
    • Installing Firefox 3.5 Beta by double clicking the firefox-3.5b4pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe, creating a shortcut Shiretoko on your Desktop
    • Launch Firefox by double clicking the Shiretoko icon on your Desktop
    • Click File -> Open File. Navigate to the untarred folder, select firefox-3.5b4pre.sw.langpack.xpi,click Open, then Install
    • Restart
    • On the address bar, type about:config. On the settings look for general.useragent.locale and change it's value from en-US to sw-TZ.
    • Close the brower, restart it again. It will be in Kiswahili.
